How was your weekend
Published by Nate Nance September 4th, 2007 in Movie Blog, This Weblog, Sports, MusicMy was a mix of some really good stuff followed by a really bad day today.
Saturday, Space Monkey went to see Rob Zombie’s re-invisioning of Halloween. We were surprised at how far hot chicks in movies titled Halloween have come in the past 30 years. I’ll do a review in the next couple of days, before you head out to choose your weekend movie.
We also watched Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon on DVD. It was my second time watching it and I love that movie. It’s hard to stay original in a genre that practically shuns originality in favor of formulaic slasher films. Most studios would rather have Jason Takes Manhattan than Stir of Echoes. Why? For that, you’d have to understand Hollywood producers and not even God knows what’s going on in their heads.
We finished off our night with Black Snake Moan. That movie definitely deserves its own review, which I’ll also do in the coming days. I don’t know what I was expecting beforehand, but we both agreed that it was an excellent movie. And now I absolutely must learn to play the guitar. You people cannot even begin to comprehend how important it is to me to learn this skill.
It’s important to me that not only do I listen to the blues, but that I learn to play what I’ve listened to. And now one song haunts my dreams. The title song, Black Snake Moan, electrified and played on a Gibson ES-335… cherry colored, of course. If I can’t learn this one thing, it seems like I have’t learned anything. Life wouldn’t seem worth living. I’ve got to go on this “quest” and
Today, I got a call when I woke up from my boss. They are cracking down on me and my tardiness. I have to be in a 6 p.m. from now on. I was rushing to get dressed and get gas. For some reason, my checking and savings accounts are zeroed out, even though I haven’t even been able to use my debit card since I put money in my checking account last Thursday. I don’t know what’s going on and I certainly can’t investigate because I’m here at work. I’m always stuck in the newsroom. I didn’t meet Rick Noriega last Friday because I was sleeping before Zero Week for high school football, which I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about.
I’m just venting, I guess. My job at the Trib has become more of an annoyance than anything else to me lately. I don’t know exactly what’s changed over the last five years, but I’ve definitely come to resent working here rather than feeling like I want to be here. I was going to beg Noriega for a job on his campaign. At this point, I’m willing to beg anybody for any job just to get away from here.
