Published by Nate Nance August 27th, 2007 in Noteworthy News, National PoliticsYou can take that as a joke if you want to, but they are reporting that Afghanistan’s opium production is at “frightening levels.”
Afghanistan is now responsible for 93 per cent of global opium production, according to the UNODC.
“The amount of Afghan land used for growing opium is now larger than the combined total under coca cultivation in Latin America - Colombia, Peru and Bolivia.
Leave it to the Thais to worry about Afghanistan’s opium production. Thanks to us and our “hearts and minds” policy their, we haven’t interfered with local farmers growing poppies and making a mint because we don’t want them to turn on us. So now Thailand is second to Afghanistan in opium production (Ed. note: I learned that watching Human Weapon on the History Channel when they went to study Muay Thai kickboxing. Parents, make your kids watch more television and they’ll grow up to be smart-ass bloggers, like me!)
Oh wait, that’s right! We’re there fighting some war or something there. Something to do with some buildings getting knocked down. I don’t know, my memory is about as good as Alberto Gonzales’. Anyhoo, I don’t think that opium is going to Big Pharma companies to make my Vicodin.
The Taliban was using funds from drug production to finance its insurgency.
So you gotta ask yourself, ‘What other wars has our commander-in-chief fucked up besides Iraq?’
