This can’t be a good sign

I was at my doctor’s office today to get my new Vicodin script and go over some of the paperwork I have to have at next Friday’s meeting with the Social Security Disability people.

He told me that there can be a two-year donut between when you get declared “disabled” and when Medicare starts giving you health care coverage. Here’s the rub… my mom’s insurance stops covering me in January.

Dum dum dummmm!

Oh wait, I mean dumb, dumb, really fucking dumb.

I made a joke about moving to France because they have universal health care, and he told me that might not be a bad idea. And he knows how I feel about French people. And considering I would be getting the same or better quality care…
My plan at the moment is to stockpile as many pills as I possibly can for the lean times ahead. I pay $10 for my Vicodin at the pharmacy, whether it is 10 pills or 100 pills. Maybe he can write a few scripts for 500 pills. We’re going to look into the insurance fine print and see if they really can just drop someone with a chronic condition that is totally dependent on the insured. If Bill Gates can go through tax loopholes and get an income tax refund check, I should have a loophole to keep getting covered so that I can go to the doctor and get my damn pills.

Of course, I’m poor, so I’m probably screwed. I’ll have to find some private insurance and use my SS benefits to pay for it. If I can find insurance with a pre-existing chronic condition. Which isn’t very likely.

Plan B is monthly trips to Mexico to buy cheap drugs. A quick drive over the border to the nearest pharmacy and I’ll buy a few thousand Vicodin and hop back across.
