I guess I have to watch SiCKO now
Published by Nate Nance July 6th, 2007 in Noteworthy News, National Politics, Movie Blog, This WeblogI kinda wanted to see it anyway. I don’t know if any of you know this, but I happen to be a Michael Moore fan. For Fahrenheit 9/11, I managed to get my mom to drive us to Austin so we could see it together.
She was just as outraged as the rest of the audience.
Somehow, someway, the local Galaxy 16 is playing SiCKO (to my utter shock and amazement) here in Waco. So I’ll probably drag Space Monkey along to go see it.
My main interest now is to see if there is an impromptu town hall meeting afterward near the bathrooms so that we can “do something.” I’m all for doing something. Especially before my health insurance runs out in January. I have a chronic condition that requires lots of medication and lots of visits to the doctor. Having the government pay for it all sounds pretty sweet to me.
Since I don’t live in fantasyland, I won’t plan on single-payer universal health care any time in the near future. Instead, I’m just going to file for Social Security Disability. I am disabled after all and I need the insurance coverage for all that Vicodin (they just give it to me in 100 pill bottles now) and my doctor scores me freebies when it comes to Effexor. I have enough “samples” to last another 13 weeks. And its only $10 a refill for clonazepam with my insurance, so its not hardship at the moment.
Hopefully, with SSI I’ll get a disability check, coverage for my prescriptions and doctor visits, and I can keep working part-time at the paper. For now, at least.
Do you think the other audience members will get that I’m being cleverly ironic if I wear that “No Moore, Bush 2004″ t-shirt my mom bought me in Crawford that time? Probably not.
