Movie Blog goes apeshit

I should say now that I have not seen Spider-Man 3, nor do I intend to. I’ll even let you in on a little secret: I thought the first two blew elephant balls.

This is all to say that Sam Raimi could have done so much more if he had picked a different franchise route. He’s a really good director and I’m not just saying that because I’m a fan of the Evil Dead trilogy.

Devin would have you believe that there is redeeming value in what Raimi’s done with this film and that most of the ‘Dark Peter’ is character-driven instead of the usual movie fan shock-and-awe type stuff.

I, instead, equate Raimi’s work on the Spider-Man trilogy with Robert Rodriguez doing those shitty Spy Kids movies. There was really no reason for those movies other than to see Salma Hayek in dark-rimmed glasses and pig tails and he knows it. But he got box office from those because every kid had to go see them in 3-D and drag their parents along, then he got to make Grindhouse. We all make concessions for the greater good.

Hopefully Raimi is doing the same and he will give us a really good not-summer-tent-pole-blockbuster movie worth my $8 in the near future.
