Why my mom kicks your mom’s ass
Published by Nate Nance May 5th, 2007 in This WeblogI took Common Sense mom out for an early Mother’s Day dinner tonight. She’s going on a cruise to Cozumel next week and won’t be here for the real deal, so I decided what better place than her favorite restaurant: Pappasitos.
Of course, Pappasitos is in Austin, so we had a bit of a drive, but it was worth it.
Being the kleptomaniac that she is, she actually pilfered two margarita glasses and some napkins. She likes to have momentos of all the places we visit and eat at.
She hadn’t been to downtown Austin since before I was born, so we just sort of made a night of it. I took her to Cuba Libre for her first mojito. You better believe she’s going to be sipping those down poolside on the cruise ship now. Then it was a short walk to my favorite bar in all of Austin: Speakeasy.
Ordinarily, I shun a place that charges a cover. But Speakeasy is well worth it. There is always some good jazz or funk band playing on stage. The terrace has one of the best views in downtown Austin and the balcony has some of the most comfortable couches to sit on while listening to some great music. Mom loved it. She said she could have spent all night there and she even got down on the dance floor to cut a rug. Those dancing lessons she’s been taking at Bo’s Barn in Salado are really paying off.
If you missed out, well, maybe next time. Maybe you can spend some time reminiscing with us during the 1st annual Cinco de Mayo Sausagefest film festival today.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some tranquilizers and Vicodin to take so that I can get some much-needed sleep.
