Big news today is that the former head of the Downtown Waco, Inc. had a warrant for her arrest issued Monday afternoon.

Long story short, there were some, um, accounting irregularities that were noticed when she left her post as executive director. Irregularities that could total half a million dollars.

The arrest warrant affidavit filed Monday accuses Mills of taking $268,458 by misusing agency checks and debit and credit cards, and by diverting members’ dues checks to her personal bank account. The affidavit says that other questionable expenses could push the total as high as $500,000. The theft over $200,000 charge could carry a punishment of five years to life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Interestingly, Trib reporters found Mills before anyone else. We even got cool art of her poking her head out the door when one of them knocked on her door. Her lawyer hadn’t even heard about the warrant yet.

And our Web site has total coverage of the events of the evening. The Trib is kicking every TV stations’ ass.

We know where she is, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest… but somehow she hasn’t been arrested yet and no one seems to be trying to slap the cuffs on her. It seems like she is getting preferential treatment.

Before it becomes a big thing, Mills’ husband, Coke Mills, is a prominent area Democrat. This isn’t one of those partisan fights, it’s about a buttload of money that was imbezzled. Stolen.

Check out wacotrib.com for all the coverage, from the affidavit for her arrest to a photo slideshow. We got it all, baby.
