Turns out the day the Trib runs a local story about geneaology is the same day we run a story about Strom Thurmond’s ancestors owning Al Sharpton’s ancestors. Too bad we didn’t run those stories on the same page.

Sharpton appeared on the O’Reilly show last night to discuss this. Especially since he is now demanding DNA testing to see if he might be related to Thurmond.

“Why is this important to you?” asked the rich, old white man with just a hint of malice. I can sympathize with Sharpton. It’s bad enough to know your ancestors were slaves, but if you find out they were slaves to the family of a man you fought in the political arena over the rights of African-Americans for many years, that has to be stomach churning.

If I was related to Strom Thurmond, though, I wouldn’t want to know it. That would be like being related to Dracula. I wouldn’t go around flaunting it.

The important thing to keep in mind at this moment is “Fuck Strom Thurmond. Fuck his rotting corpse.” That should keep things in the proper prospective.
