Anna Nicole Smith died today at the age of 39. The official cause is not known yet.

I had to say something since this was so important that my mom called me on my way to work to tell me that she was dead. I suppose it is because she was from Mexia that I take such and interest; I’d do the the same for Jessica Simpson whose grandparents live in my town.

Sadly, I think she has probably garnered more fame for the death of her son last fall and her own death today than for anything else she’s done in her life. At the Trib, she’s getting the lion’s share of the front page while the guilty verdict in the Gentry murder trial is getting second billing. That seems to say that this is the biggest news story of the day.

Fame is fleeting, especially for those who are famous for merely being famous. Enjoy it, if you can, Anna.
