A lot of blogs have linked to the Trib story about the NRCC doing a poll last week then pulling money out of the Taylor race.

I know that the Huffingtonpost.com has a link and I heard that TPM with Josh Marshall also has a link, but I didn’t see it.

There was apparently some confusion over what the story said. If you read my post yesterday, you probably got the impression that the Republicans have given up on that district. That’s not the case; in fact, President Bush gave his endorsement to Taylor today.

Although, with Bush’s poll numbers where they are, I get this weird mental image of Al Pacino giving him the kiss of death. “You broke my heart, Taylor.”

Anyway, as I said, Taylor has plenty of his own money to throw at this race. He gave $250,000 to his own campaign during the primaries and he claims to have given $100,000 to his campaign in September (Ed. note: Don’t hold me to those numbers, I’m going to look them up later.) And he has that $5-25 million in Exxon-Mobil stock to lean on, so he can definitely buy all the air time he needs.

Luckily, now I can be even more lazy with my coverage because the Trib political reporter has started a blog to cover the ‘06 election. I’m psyched because we often talk about politics and blogs and this just brings the Trib closer to my idea of total campaign coverage. And we have such a good history with our Bear Blog from Jerry Hill in sports.
