The Chronicle has a breaking news alert that Ann Richards, former Governor of Texas, has died tonight.

Once called the “Steel Magnolia of Texas” by Ross Perot, she lost her bid for re-election in 1994 against Yankee boob George W. Bush. Since then, she has been a great statesman and representative for Texas.

Earlier this year it was confirmed she was battling esophageal cancer. We’re all diminished by her loss.
