This is the lead graphic for the FIBA World Basketball Championships homepage. It leaves little doubt that if they were being held in China, the character would be wearing a sanpan hat and carrying rice. ‘Cuz that wouldn’t be racist at all.

Distractions

I’ve been very distracted lately. I’m not up to my own high expectations, but I’ll blame in on the pills for now. I am still working on getting the dosage high enough to be effective, but low enough not to make me zonk out or lose focus. I haven’t even checked my email all weekend.

I can’t begin to tell you how pissed off I am.
President Bush, March 6, 2005: “We‘re taking the fight to the terrorists abroad so we do not have to face them here at home.”
President Bush, Aug. 10, 2006: “It is a mistake to believe there is no threat to the United States of America.”

I went to the doctor today and he finally, finally gave me a prescription for pain killers. Even my mom is perturbed that I’ve gone this long without help, which might be why she was giving me her Vicodin.

The Lloyd Doggett Re-Election Campaign is seeking volunteers and interns that can assist Congressman Doggett and the campaign staff with a range of responsibilities. Join our team and show the Republicans how hard we Texas Democrats fight and persevere despite their partisan redistricting efforts.
Volunteers are needed to help with mailings, phone banks, canvassing, office/computer needs, […]

Both Sugar Land mayor David Wallace and Houston city councilperson Shelly Sekulla-Gibbs have both declared that they will be write-in candidates for the TX-22 seat. That doesn’t include who Tina Benkiser selected and the Republican party will pick after their super-secret meeting today. That will be three “Republicans” versus Nick Lampson.
I like those odds.

The headlines today read “Beware incumbents.” That about sums it up.
The talking heads, though, are blathering and they just don’t really get it. I’ve heard more than one person today say something to the effect that this race will embolden the left in the party. If they had been paying attention, they would realize that […]
