One year later
Published by Nate Nance August 29th, 2006 in Noteworthy News, National PoliticsWhat is President Bush doing to commemorate the first anniversary of the worst natural disaster in American history?
He’s throwing a party! Come on everybody, sing along.
Actually, he’s touring the affected region trying desperately, and in vain to get people to forget that picture. Nero fiddled while Rome burned; Bush strummed a guitar while New Orleans drowned. His problem over the last year has been convincing the American people that he isn’t incompetent.
I’m sure he would have succeeded, too, had it not been the second time he screwed up in a crisis situation. On September 11, 2001, when Andy Card informed that America was under attack, he sat there for 7 minutes looking like he was about to piss his pants in front of little children.
When disaster strikes, our president can be counted on to either piss his pants or ignore it completely and remembering that is the best way to honor those who died. Otherwise, those responsible and those too incompetent to protect us won’t be held to account.
