Name rings a Bell

The WSJ/Zogby Interactive poll has Democratic challenger Chris Bell and Independent yahoo Kinky Friedman on the up and up with incumbent Rick Perry.

  • R Rick Perry 34.8%
  • D Chris Bell 23.1%
  • I Kinky Friedman 22.7%
  • I Carole Strayhorn 9.6%

Margin of error =/- 3.1%

That’s still at least 10 points that must be made up from somewhere to overtake Perry. He’s no longer losing support to Strayhorn, and it looks like her independent supporters are moving to Friedman and Bell. And to think, this summer people were so sure that she was going to be the one to get out of the pack and make it a race for Perry.

What Bell needs to do now is get those Independents that are taken with Kinky to realize that he’s a goof off and not able to actually do the job. Being governor doesn’t mean riding in parades and waving your hat, you actually have to do work.

Paul Burka questions the methodology of interactive polls, but I think it does show a trend in declining support for Strayhorn. Somewhere around 10-15% support from Republicans sounds about right to me.
