I have a great local girl makes good story. Leah Mullinax, a graduate from MCC, is one of 13 new girls joining the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. A member of the dance team for the past two years, Leah entered a competition with 1,000 other girls and managed to earn a spot on the team.

“I think it will feel real when we step out on the field to dance at a game,” said Mullinax, who graduated from MCC on May 9. Her on-field debut will come when the Cowboys host the San Francisco 49ers in a preseason game on Aug. 26.

And I can’t wait to see.

Since graduation, Mullinax said the squad has been “practicing like crazy,” trying to learn the steps of the two dozen dances they’ll go through at each of the Cowboys’ 10 home games…

“I’m just going to go out there and dance like I love to do and have fun,” she said. “I’m going to try to have fun and entertain the crowd.”

That’s all we ask of you, Leah. The press release included a picture of Leah in her Cowboys outfit. Make sure you call all your co-workers over to see it after the jump.

MCC graduate Leah Mullinax has earned a spot as one of the famed Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

Mullinax learned on July 23 that she is one of the 35 women who will be cheering on America’s Team in front of 65,000 fans this coming football season.

Even though she’s now officially a member of the team, the reality of the situation hasn’t sunk in yet.

“I think it will feel real when we step out on the field to dance at a game,” said Mullinax, who graduated from MCC on May 9. Her on-field debut will come when the Cowboys host the San Francisco 49ers in a preseason game on Aug. 26.

Mullinax, who was a member of the MCC dance team for two years, was one of 44 cheerleader hopefuls invited to training camp which began on May 2. That group of 44 had been whittled down from the 1,000-plus women who applied to be part of the group. Mullinax is one of 13 rookie cheerleaders who will be joining the 22 veterans on the storied squad, which began in 1972.

“I don’t think it’s set in for them either,” she said. “They haven’t even seen me in my uniform,” an outfit which consists of white shorts, knee-high white boots, a long-sleeved blue blouse and a white vest adorned with blue stars.

“I don’t think it will be real for them until they see me on the field in August,” she said.

Since graduation, Mullinax said the squad has been “practicing like crazy,” trying to learn the steps of the two dozen dances they’ll go through at each of the Cowboys’ 10 home games.

“I’m just trying to make sure I get all the routines down and stay in shape,” she said. “I’m trying to prepare myself to dance in front of that many people.”

Mullinax, 20, has been dancing for 17 years, but has never performed in a venue as large as Texas Stadium, which seats 65, 595.

“I’m just going to go out there and dance like I love to do and have fun,” she said. “I’m going to try to have fun and entertain the crowd.”
