A good one for a change

I usually point out really stupid letters to the editor in my own Waco Trib. The ones that really grate on my nerves and prove to illicit some commentary. This one is different; I actually really liked it and thought you should read it.

Losing America

I would not knowingly countenance disloyalty or rebellion. But we Americans need a new high ground, a new Plymouth Rock. Our American way of life is sinking faster than the city of New Orleans.

At our president’s last State of the Union address, I saw far more smirks than smiles, and heard far more “I’s” than “we’s.” Arrogance? This is not the America the pilgrims envisioned hundreds of years ago.

Let us go back to basics and ask our “founding fathers” what happened.

George Nance

Waco

It’s just an amazing coincidence that the author has the same last name as me. That’s not some wink and nod that I’m actually the author, because I’m not. I’m not even related.

I’d probably have to add that the Pilgrims would like where America seems headed. Their idea was to create a theocracy where the unquestioned power of the state flowed directly from religious obedience. The guys who fought a war with England (twice no less) had different ideas and I choose to go with them.

Still, the heart of the letter is correct.
