Congress hates the flag
Published by Nate Nance June 27th, 2006 in National PoliticsBoth flag burning amendments failed to get the requisite 67 votes in the Senate today. The Republican measure was one vote shy and had some notable GOP defectors: Sens. Mitch McConnell, Bob Bennett and Lincoln Chafee.
Sen. Dick Durbin, a Democrat, had alternate flag protecting legislation. His amendment would have protected the flag in four certain instances, including when used to incite violence, and to take this to the next level of political patriotic theater, would have prohibited political demonstrations at soldiers’ funerals. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
Yes indeed, Congress has become a completely useless body. They might as well have been debating whether or not my Grandma Betty’s Thanksgiving rolls are better than my Great Grandma’s.
I am depressed by this and plan on drinking myself to sleep tonight.
