Why did they even bother?

I am imploring you, nay, begging you to not go to The Omen tomorrow or anytime.

Really, what was the point? The Omen was a great movie. They did everything right the first time around, why would you want to try to top it? The sad thing is, that they fail miserably. They cast Liev Schreiber to replace Gregory Peck. Atticus f-ing Finch! Captain f-ing Ahab! One of the greatest actors of the 20th Century and they replace him with that guy from Sphere.

I guess the thing that is really ticking me off is that it really is a pointless remake. Unlike other remakes, there is no “reimagining” of the original, it is just a copy with new actors. So much of the original script was used that the guy who wrote the screenplay got full writings credits for this too!

And what they did change had no meaning and added nothing to the story. It really detracts from it actually because of a fundamental misunderstanding by the director as to what made the first movie good.

At least with the Planet of the Apes remake, we could could look at our friends in the theater and say “Why was Abraham Lincoln a monkey? I don’t get it.”

Don’t waste your money and don’t encourage Fox. Just wait until Friday to go see A Prairie Home Companion.
