My name is Nick Chu and I’m President of University Democrats at UT Austin and Vice Chair of the Texas Democratic Party College Caucus. As you know there will be an important TDP Chair election at the state convention that will determine the future of our party in Texas. A great candidate, and the person I am supporting, is Glen Maxey. As a young person in the party I know that Glen will be a Chairman who will keep young people energized and highly involved in Democratic politics.

Over the past couple of years I have had a chance to see what Glen has done and what he has to offer our party. Investing in the youth of our party is the most important thing Democrats can do, because we are the future of the party. Glen knows this. He has trained hundreds of young people in Democratic politics and he has brought hundreds more into the Democratic Party.

Glen has consistently put young people in positions of responsibility in order for them to learn. Being a college student, I know that there are some things that I cannot learn from books. Politics is one of those things. First hand experience is the only way people develop a passion for politics. Providing that first hand experience by giving young people the chance to learn through responsibility is the only way our party can grow. Glen knows this.

Investing in our youth is so important that Glen wants to create more paying jobs for young people. Right now our party has a problem of not encouraging young people to get involved. This fact discourages many bright people. Students aren’t the best people to ask to work for free (what with having to pay for tuition, books, and ramen noodles).

Young people represent the future of our party. The Democratic Party cannot grow without youth. People are always talking about how more young people need to get involved in politics. But we are at the door and Glen Maxey wants to open it for us. Glen wants to see our party grow. He wants more young people to get involved. He wants our party to be strong. That is why I am supporting Glen Maxey as Texas Democratic Party Chair and I hope that this June you will too.
