For shame
Published by Nate Nance April 27th, 2006 in National Politics, The InternetsSean-Paul tells us about Congressman Charlie Gonzales:
Everyone, meet Rep. Charles “Charlie” Gonzales. Charlie is a Democrat. Sometimes. But not today. Today he was Ed Whitacre’s, CEO of AT&T, tool in Congress. You see, Charlie voted against the Markey Amendment, which would have guaranteed internet freedom. The Markey Amendment would have prevented AT&T (who has given Charlie almost $60,000 in campaign donations) from creating a “Tony Soprano model of networking, where some companies get better service than others,” as Professor Tim Wu, a staunch proponent of internet freedom, said in his recent testimony before the committee. Charlie voted against the amendment because he is opposed “regulating the internet.”
Regulating the internet?
Guess what he did later in the afternoon? He offered a telecom cartel sponsored amendment to regulate search engines! But hey, that’s not regulating the internet, right?
And Eric over at Mind Speak tells us about another Texas Democrat who has sold out his constituents.
On April 26th, 2006, the Markey Amendment to the COPE Act went for a vote before the House Energy & Commerce Committee, of which Congressman Green is a member. The Markey Amendment - if passed - would ensure network neutrality across the Internet - in essence saving the Internet from (telecom/cable) big business. Congressman Green - directly opposite of Democratic party lines, and values - voted against the Markey Amendment.
Truly, this is the best Congress that money can buy.
